Camp Olden Civil War Round Table

Programs

Camp Olden Civil War Round Table is dedicated to preservation, research and education involving all aspects of the American Civil War. Our members seek to honor these ideals by serving on volunteer committees that oversee various member-designed projects and activities. Some of these programs include:

Preservation

In 1994, members of Camp Olden saved, restored and rededicated the famous "Swamp Angel" Civil War Cannon Monument in Cadwalader Park, Trenton, NJ. The Swamp Angel was originally dedicated by the patriotic citizens of Trenton in 1876.

In 1995, we had a park located in Hamilton Township, NJ renamed Camp Olden Park. Our Members erected and dedicated a monument to the original Camp Olden, the first major training camp for the Civil War soldier in New Jersey.

The waterfront area of Trenton, NJ once contained many factories vital to the Northern war effort. In 1998, Camp Olden placed a plaque on the wall of Katmandu restaurant, to commemorate those forgotten companies and workers that produced over 11,000 Springfield rifles and naval and railroad equipment in the vicinity.

Research

During 1995, members of Camp Olden researched and published our first book, The Search For Camp Olden, Hamilton Township, about the original training facility.

Education

Each month, prominent authors, famous historians, our members and other experts on the Civil War era, make exciting presentations at our regular meetings. All members and the general public are welcome.
